Welder performance qualification

A Welder Performance Qualification (WPQ) is a test certificate that shows whether a welder possesses the necessary experience and knowledge to perform the specifications of a particular weld procedure. The MES welder performance qualification lab is a one-stop-shop for non-destructive and mechanical testing of weld coupons to a given weld procedure.

COMPLETE NDT AND MECHANICAL TEST LABS

MES conducts x-ray, dye penetrant, ultrasound, macro-etch, tensile, charpy impact, and bend tests on a weld coupons provided by the welder to determine whether the welder is capable of producing a good weld quality using the welding processes, materials and prescribed procedures. Upon passing the procedure requirements, a welder is given a qualification record (WPQR) specific to the procedure weld variables.

HOW WELDER PERFORMANCE WORKS

The scope of the WPQ test varies depending on the weld procedure and specification, but it generally involves non-destructive and destructive testing. Weld sample coupons are fabricated by the welder according to the certification range required. The MES on-site, full-service machine shop can prepare test specimens from your submitted weld coupon.

These coupons are inspected and tested at the MES lab. After passing required tests, our CWIs will issue you a qualification certificate for your records.
